Black Masala

October 21, 2016 at 5pm

Dance the night away with Black Masala, Washington DC’s eclectic, gypsy-punk brass band.

This high-energy ensemble—featuring musicians on trumpet, trombone, accordion, electric guitar, sousaphone and drums galore—was formed in 2012, when founder Mike Ounallah decided to start a Balkan brass band. Best known for its exhilarating jams and funky grooves, Black Masala delivers explosive performances that are guaranteed to get you on the dance floor.

In only four years, Black Masala has collected four Washington Area Music Awards, earned rave reviews from across the country and released two albums. The latest album, I Love You Madly (2015), showcases the band’s ability to fuse brass band bombast with diverse musical styles—including Bhangra, Afrofunk, swing, Balkan, bounce and more.
