Bumper Jacksons

July 11, 2016 at 6pm

DC-based roots innovators the Bumper Jacksons brew up an old-timey, spiced-up sound.

When Bumper Jackson founders Chris Ousley and Jess Eliot Myhre first met, they were playing in a contradance band. Inspired by their natural musical chemistry, the two set out to recreate an old-time roots band with a modern touch. The duo of Ousley (guitar, vocals, tenor banjo) and Myhre (clarinet, vocals, washboard) eventually grew into a sextet, with Alex Lacquement (upright bass, vocals), Dan Samuels (drums, suitcase), Dave Hadley (pedal steel) and Brian Priebe (trombone, vocals).

The band’s latest album, Too Big World, features the work of GRAMMY Award-winning audio engineer Charlie Pilzer (Smithsonian Folkways’ Anthology of American Folk Music). Winners of the Washington Area Music Awards “Artist of the Year” in 2015 and “Best Folk Band” from 2013-2015, the Bumper Jacksons have reaped praise from critics at The Washington PostThe Washington TimesThe Huffington PostNo Depression and Baltimore Magazine. This show will mark the Bumper Jacksons' third Levitt AMP appearance in 2016.
