As its name implies, Circa Blue is all about bluegrass, fusing the old and the new through an irresistible combination of tight vocal harmonies, clean instrumentation and creative arrangements.
When Steve Harris was 14 years old, his dad bought two guitars, a mandolin, a dobro, a bass and a banjo, marking the beginning of “The Harris Family Band.” Decades later, after successful careers in construction and law enforcement, Steve rediscovered his love for bluegrass music at the 2007 Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival. Three years later, he founded Circa Blue. Joining Harris (guitar, vocals) in the West Virginia-based band: Whiskey Gentry alum Garrett Wren (mandolin), Matt Hickman (banjo), award-winning Malia Furtado (fiddle, vocals) and Ashley Stewart (bass, vocals).
A veteran of bluegrass festivals nationwide, Circa Blue has three albums under its belt, including A Darker Blue, which reached No. 38 on Roots Music Report’s list of top 100 bluegrass albums of 2014. Once Upon a Time, the band’s latest album with Orange Blossom Records, came out in January.
