Award-winning bluegrass and country guitarist Jim Hurst brings his distinctive picking style and expressive voice to the Levitt AMP Middlesboro stage.
Hurst—a Middlesboro native—grew up in Toledo, Ohio to the sounds of bluegrass greats Tony Rice, Doc Watson and Clarence White, but gravitated towards the finger-style playing of Merle Travis, Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed. Outside of his full-time solo career, Hurst teaches bluegrass guitar at camps and workshops in North America and Europe. The Jim Hurst Trio features Hurst (guitar, vocals), Nate Lee (fiddle) and Todd Phillips (bass).
An acclaimed recording artist, Hurst has worked with Trisha Yearwood, Sara Evans and Claire Lynch, a GRAMMY nominee and three-time winner of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Female Vocalist of the Year Award. Hurst’s partnership with bassist Missy Raines—seven-time winner of the IBMA Bass Player of the Year Award—resulted in two albums for Pinecastle Records that garnered him two consecutive IBMA Guitar Player of the Year Awards.
