Get ready to groove to the music of the Pietasters, a Washington, DC-based ska revival band.
In 1990, singer/songwriter Stephen Jackson and his friends at Virginia Tech decided to start a ska band during the heyday of the genre's Third Wave. Just two years later, the group was selected to tour as the opening act for popular British ska band Bad Manners. The Pietasters are veteran recording artists, with eight albums to their name. For Willis (1997) and Awesome Mix Tape, Vol. 6 (1999), both released on Hellcat/Epitaph Records, the Pietasters worked with Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz.
In 2003, the Pietasters were chosen to back the “Godfather of Soul,” James Brown, at the WHFS Holiday Nutcracker Ball. The current Pietaster roster includes Dan Schneider (organ), Toby Hansen (guitar), Steve Jackson (vocals), Carlos Linares (trumpet), Alan Makranczy (sax), Dave Vermillion (bass), Jeremy Roberts (trombone) and Jason Budman (drums).
