Born out of years of friendship as bandmates in the Dallas-based group Young Country, old friends Rick Sparks (guitar, vocals), Don Timmer (mandolin), Robert Erlich (fiddle) and Karen Roemmich (bass) come together again as Southwestern Pilgrimage. The group takes its original material and combines it with songs from some of the best songwriters in the Southwest, embellishing them with tight vocal harmonies and unique instrumental interpretations. With songs about wide open spaces, rivers, romance and legends of the West, this bluegrass group represents all that is good in American music.
Veteran acoustic musician Rick Sparks has spent the last 45 years either performing or instructing acoustic music ranging from folk, bluegrass and country to the most recent Americana genre. His expertise on banjo, guitar, mandolin, dobro and pedal steel guitar have entertained audiences for decades, and his pleasing tenor vocals have allowed him to interpret the songs of John Denver, Larry Gatlin and dozens of other musicians. As a multi-instrumentalist, Sparks has played with numerous country and bluegrass artists including Michael Hearne, Shake Russell and Michael Martin Murphey.
