Looking for a jazz fix that offers something fresh? Look no further, because Stomata is the perfect artist for you. Based in Milwaukee, this three-piece outfit’s acrobatic and expert musicianship is a critically acclaimed mainstay in modern jazz. Jay Anderson, who plays woodwinds, is the Resident Saxophonist for the Milwaukee Art Museum, once held a year-long residency at The Jazz Estate, and has shared the stage with the likes of The Roots, The Flaming Lips and Lupe Fiasco.
The group’s original composition, “A Night In Milwaukee” is a rework of the classic standard “A Night In Tunisia”, re-purposed to address social unrest in their neighborhood. Featuring scratchwork by DJ Jordan “Madhatter” Lee and samples from news coverage, this song is an embodiment to Stomata’s old-school yet unique style.
