Connla serves up traditional Celtic music that delicately weaves harp, guitar, flute and vocals into a mesmerizing and melodic sound. Hailing from the Northern Irish cities of Amagh and Derry, the five-member band is making an impact in the folk and traditional scene both locally and internationally. With Clara McCafferty’s strong vocals floating above an ethereal blend of Ciaran Carlin’s flute and whistles, Paul Starett’s guitar, Emer Mallon’s harp and Conor Mallon’s pipe and whistles, the band members create a soundscape evoking images of rolling, green Irish hills.
After releasing their EP in 2015, their debut album River Waiting (2016) and their latest album, The Next Chapter (2018), Connla has already gathered an impressive following and won “Album of the Year” from the ALSR Celtic Music Awards and the Irish Livvies Awards in 2019. In 2017, Irish Music Magazine referred to the band as a “new musical powerhouse” and Songlines Magazine called them “a must see act.”
Delivering a blend of country, roots and folk, Chicago Farmer emulates the energy and creativity of the big city music scene while honoring his family’s deeply rooted history as farmers of a small town in Illinois.
