Damon Mitchell is a singer, pianist and songwriter from Madison, Ill. With the moving sounds of spirituals and gospel music filling his church as a child, Mitchell realized his love for spirituality and music early on. Inspired by his love of hymns, jazz, soul and traditional gospel music, Mitchell creates a unique sound that honors the raw and heartfelt musical traditions of his youth, while layering in modern, soulful vocals, heavenly choir sections and contemporary production.
He has served as the master of ceremony for concerts featuring the legendary Richard Smallwood and Marvin Sapp and has opened for gospel veterans Maurette Brown-Clark, Alvin Darling and Lisa McClendon. As an ordained minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Mitchell has dedicated his life to religious service and musical creativity, both of which go hand-in-hand in his spiritual practice. His debut album Blessed was released in June 2014, with powerful and emotionally rich songs such as "Things are about to Change," "My God," and "Blessed."
