Combining irresistible beats, an exuberant stage presence and expert musicianship, GRAMMY-nominated Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers are a crowd-pleasing powerhouse. The youngest son of zydeco pioneer Alton “Rockin’ Dopsie” Rubin, Louisiana native Dopsie performed with his dad growing up and, after his passing in 1993, founded his own band at the age of 19. Since then, the band has released seven studio albums and two live albums and played festivals all over the world, sharing their joyous zydeco sound with audiences in more than 40 countries. Named “America’s Hottest Accordionist” in a competition by the American Accordion Association, Dopsie mixes traditional zydeco with elements of blues, reggae and rock ’n’ roll. Together with spot-on washboard player Paul Lafleur and the other Hellraisers, the band has more than 100 years combined experience playing zydeco music. Dopsie’s boundless energy shines through as he interacts with his audiences and takes them on a wild musical ride.
The band earned a GRAMMY nomination for “Best Regional Roots Music Album” for their 2017 release Top of the Mountain, and Dopsie has won numerous awards for “Best Zydeco Artist” from New Orleans’ OffBeat Magazine. He has appeared on television shows such as Good Morning America and CBS This Morning and has pumped up partygoers at Mardi Gras. He is currently working on recording a tribute album of his father’s greatest hits.
