With warm, soulful music flowing through his veins, Gedeon Luke’s velvet vocals and driving, uplifting grooves are infused with the grit of rock ‘n’ roll and the fervor of gospel, keeping concertgoers coming back for more. Growing up immersed in the Memphis, Tenn., music scene as the son of R&B singer Tony McKinney, Luke experienced the transformative power of music firsthand—with music, family and faith lifting him out of the poverty he experienced as a child. During his youth, Luke was weaned on the gospel-infused sounds of Sly Stone, Curtis Mayfield and Al Green and deeply inspired by the rock ‘n roll passion of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Together with his nine-person band—The People—Luke brings immense energy and heart to every show, spreading a message of love, peace and soul with the world.
Gedeon Luke is perhaps best known for reaching the American Idol semifinals in 2006—even winning over exacting judge Simon Cowell. The band’s latest album, Live Free and Love (2014), is a celebration of funk and positivity, featuring the contributions of modern-day masters Jack Daley (Lenny Kravitz, Joss Stone & Phillip Phillips), James Poyser (The Roots), Daniel Sadownick (Maxwell, Angie Stone) and George Laks (Lenny Kravitz, Gavin DeGraw) and production by Jack Daley and Marc Swersky (Joe Cocker). Gedeon Luke & The People have energized audiences at Levitt SteelStacks (2015), Levitt Arlington (2014) and the Levitt AMP Asbury Music Series (2016).
