Switchback is the award-winning duo of Brian FitzGerald and Martin McCormack, featuring Paul Russell on mandolin, fiddle and guitar and Nick Hirka on percussion. The group draws inspiration from traditional Celtic music and original Americana songs that reflect their Irish heritage and Midwestern roots. Formed in 1994, this musical partnership has been entertaining audiences around the world with their unique American roots music blended with Celtic soul. Playing an exciting mix of mandolin, guitar and bass, their harmonies harken back to the golden era of power duos like the Louvin Brothers, Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel.
Described by Music Connection Magazine as an incredible band with “stunning vocal blends,” Switchback has toured the world, reviving original Celtic music one stage at a time. With their album production being handled by GRAMMY Award-winning producer Lloyd Maines, and dozens of appearances on flagship PBS programs such as “The Americana Sessions” and “The Celtic Sessions,” Switchback is a staple presence on the folk circuit bringing new life into original acoustic traditions. With a performance backed by the Central Illinois Irish Dancers and the St. Andrew Society Dancers and Bagpipers, Levitt AMP Springfield audiences are in for an immersive evening of Irish culture and Celtic soul!
Skibbereen is committed to preserving and promoting the traditional music as well as “otherworld” musical styles developed in direct descendancy from Celtic lineage.
