With smooth, layered saxophone, guitar, piano, bass and drums, the Sofia Goodman Group puts a fresh twist on traditional jazz. Hailing from Nashville, Tenn., this instrumental group brings together some of the city’s finest talent. The group is led by drummer and composer, Sofia Goodman, who, after performing with Esperanza Spalding in Boston in 2015, was inspired by Spalding’s encouragement to keep perfecting her craft. Drawing further influence from funk and jazz artists such as Lettuce and Herbie Hancock, The Sofia Goodman Group’s music is equal parts festive and fascinating. With energizing drum solos sprinkled throughout harmonic compositions, concertgoers of all ages will be inspired to get their groove on.
In 2017, Wildman radio host Steve Bronson named The Sofia Goodman Group “an excellent band’ and the “surprise of the night” at the Alex City Jazz Fest and Tony Rounce of Ace Records described the band as "brilliant." This praise comes alongside the group’s growing influence. Their 2018 debut album Myriad of Flowers is comprised of all original compositions and has streamed worldwide, while the band continues to perform regularly around their Nashville home base and throughout the United States.
