Vy Higginsen's Harlem Teens Choir brings boundless energy and an awareness of history to its gospel-centric shows.
In 2006, noted author, playwright, radio/TV personality and producer Vy Higginsen joined forces with gospel legend Dr. Emily "Cissy" Houston to teach teenagers about the importance of gospel music as an art form. The result, Gospel for Teens, is an award-winning program of The Mama Foundation for the Arts and Vy Higginsen's School of Gospel, Jazz and R&B Arts. This influential program provides free training to youth in the greater New York City area, promoting education and self-development.
The Harlem Teens Choir is made up of members of the Gospel for Teens Choir. Under the direction of The Mama Foundation's seasoned musical masters, the Gospel for Teens Choir has performed at prestigious venues and events across America, including the Congressional Black Caucus, Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network Convention, New York Fashion Week and Lincoln Center.
