West of Mabou

July 21, 2019 at 6pm

West of Mabou brings audiences high-energy, traditional Celtic music with a fresh, contemporary flare. The band charms concertgoers with their danceable tempos and Celtic sounds with modern inflections. With Scott Benson and Roberta Wallace on fiddles, Jared Dormer on percussion, Justin Easton on guitar and bass, and Alex Rasmussen on the pipes and whistles, West of Mabou taps into their Scottish, Irish and Cape Breton roots, creating electric performances that blend all instruments together seamlessly. Whether celebrating St. Patricks’ Day with classic Celtic music or moving audiences with their relaxing yet upbeat originals, West of Mabou has something for everyone in their music.

With their 2018 album The Bridge reaching #3 on the iTunes Canada World Music Charts and receiving radio play in four continents, West of Mabou is gaining global recognition for their talent. In 2017, they were named a top band of the year by the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. The following year, the band was nominated for “Instrumental Group of the Year” at the Canadian Folk Awards and “World Artist of the Year” at the Western Canadian Music Awards. They have performed at venues around the world, including the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow and the Western Canadian Music Awards. In 2017, Montreal’s Bucketlist Music Review described West of Mabou’s sound as “lively, Celtic music highlighted by its virtuoso fiddle players and jubilant attitude.”
